When there are a lot of fence-sitters, then there'd be a reason for a culture of journalists with a more aloof professional posture. That's not all that decides the journalism style, though. If I were a journalist I would think hard about whether I wanted a possible slump mid-career based on demographic trends. I would have a right to be transparent or not. Political journalists are not politicians.
