I Officially Know Stuff
Published February 18th, 2008Sure, I can say I know things, but when it comes to PHP I now have proof - I am a Zend Certified Engineer. I spent most of my free time last week studying and taking practice tests. I did well on them, but I was still nervous going into the exam. I think that was because the practice tests don’t really tell you much - you don’t know what you got right or wrong, just if you passed the test or not and a small breakdown of topics and how you did on them - Fail, Pass or Excellent. I thought I did pretty poorly at first, but I passed right away. By the 5th practice test I had a lot of Excellents so I figured I was good to go.
The practice tests did cover a lot of material that was on the actual exam, but there were still enough questions that I wasn’t especially ready for that worried me. I was really, really nervous when I pressed the “Finish Exam” button - but I passed, and that’s all that matters.
So what does this mean for me? Am I a PHP guru? Not really. I don’t think I’m a particularly good programmer or anything, my skill doesn’t lie in hardcore programming excellence. But a certification looks good on my resume, particularly since I don’t have a Computer Science degree. And it looks good for my annual review (this week) and for the program in general - they can now say they have a Zend PHP5 Certified Engineer working on their stuff.
how did your annual review go? congrats on passing the test!
