  • Jesus Celebrated Hanukkah

    Published December 13th, 2007

JC celebrated Hanukkah, not Christmas. Jesus was Jewish. These are pretty well known facts right?

Apparently not. Seems some Christians are offended by Jews, Hanukkah, and holiday well wishes. So once again, this is a story that makes me really angry. First off, the horrible ignorance of these Christians. They take a Happy Hanukkah as some sort of taunt. They deride the Jewish person who said it with racist comments. They even go on to say, “Hanukkah is when the Jews killed Jesus” - um, no, not exactly. There is no War on Christianity in this country - it’s the fanatical Christians that are painting themselves, convincing themselves that there is a war on their “minority” - it’s delusional. And it’s offensive. We have the Pope saying atheism is the cause for more wars and deaths than religion, which is ridiculously false. News shows have Christians “leaders” (I really hope they aren’t, but that’s unlikely given this incident) throwing fits over calls for religious tolerance, separation of church and state, and respect for the non-religious. What the hell is wrong with people? It’s not like this subway incident in NY was one bad apple - it was 10 people giving into some racist mob mentality. Ten Christians against one Jew and the one guy to stand up for him - a Muslim. Who’s the fanatical terrorists now?

Last time I checked, Jesus’ message wasn’t about hating others - ESPECIALLY Jews. This sort of thing really pisses me off. Where are the Christian leaders to denounce this irrational hatred and violence? They got all worked up over the Colorado shootings - and that guy was a failed missionary with severe mental problems! (Don’t get me started on that one, the security guard who said God guided her hand to shoot the guy - first off, she didn’t kill him and second of all, why didn’t God just guide the guy NOT to shoot up a church? Seems He was a little late to the party…another case of all credit-no blame…) This was a train of supposedly stable individuals who were incensed by being wished a Happy Hanukkah. If Christian leaders don’t step up and denounce this, they’re the worst hypocrites on earth.

I’m tired of the false victim syndrome of the vocal Christian community in this country. I’m tired of the intolerance towards those of other faiths, or no faith at all. I’m sick of the tacit approval when incidents like this happen when perpetrated BY Christians, but then hysterically condemned when perpetrated AGAINST Christians. This country is facing a serious educational and cultural problem - and it’s not the War on Christianity - it’s the War OF Christianity - a New Crusade. Filled with as much corruption and fanaticism as the original crusades….

    Happy Festivus, everyone.
