Do I Know it’s Christmas After All?
Published December 13th, 2007As long as you’re not beating people up on subways or mindlessly bitching about a false “War on Christmas” - I really have no problem with the season. Some people complain that it’s been too commercialized, and maybe so - but if you feel that strongly about it, go to church on the 25th and don’t give out any presents. Didn’t think so. The people who complain about over-commercialism are the same ones buying the most stuff.
But back to the point - there’s nothing wrong with the season. It’s nice for an end of the year celebration, giving of gifts to those you care about, etc. But therein also lies the problem. I really don’t feel much Christmas spirit this year. I don’t know why. I just don’t really care. I guess part of it is that I don’t know what to get most people, but I also don’t really want anything special. I could totally do without presents. I’d be happy with a hot meal. So I don’t expect anything from people - especially since I don’t know what to get them anyway.
I got stuff for the girlfriend of course, I hope she likes it. The brother was easy this year, so he’s getting stuff - though he wants to know what I want, and I don’t really have anything to respond with. Other than that - I haven’t really gotten anything for anyone. I hope they haven’t really gotten me anything either.
So I’m just a Grinchy person I guess. Not that I hate Christmas - I just don’t know what to do with it.

Take everyone out to dinner. Either one at a time or in groups. You are giving the gift of yourself and a memory, how much more cheesy, mushy and fun could you get?
Good idea! Let me know when you can pencil me in for my holiday dinner with you!
