  • On Tap: Anime

    Published September 10th, 2007

It’s been a while since I last watched some anime, so I’ve decided it’s time to check some things out. Currently I’m watching Planetes, since I heard such great things. I’m also going to check out Millennium Actress and Paprika, since I’m a Satoshi Kon fan. I’ve been meaning to see both for some time. After some poking around, my list also includes:

Boogiepop Phantom - sounds very weird, since I’m not really a horror guy, but I’m intrigued since it has great reviews and apparently some interesting storytelling styles.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig - GITS is of course an anime cornerstone. I’ve seen season one, so time to see season two.

Now and Then, Here and There - An older series I’ve been wanting to see this one for a while, I hear it’s real dark but I thought it sounded kinda interesting. Not particularly critically acclaimed, so we’ll see.

If anyone out there has any suggestions, drop a line!

If you haven’t seen Last Exile, that’s a definite must - one of the best I’ve ever seen. Full Metal Alchemist is another awesome one that I watched not too long ago (you’ve probably seen that one already, it’s not particularly new.) And Samurai 7 is totally cool - it’s a cyberpunk-style remake of the old Kurosawa flick. Also, I’ve only seen one episode, but I really liked what I saw of Samurai Champloo, from the guys who did Cowboy Bebop.

Let me know what you think of the ones in your list - there are a few in there that I haven’t seen either!

Yeah, Last Exile is tied for best ever with Escaflowne for me. Samurai 7 I haven’t seen, I’ll check it out. I’ve only seen one episode of Champloo, unfortunately, it was the very last episode. My friends are spoilers sometime.

I’m currently one episode away from finishing Planetes. It’s good, maybe very good…but not great.
