  • Fly Me to the Moon

    Published August 16th, 2007

Joe Rogan was on Kevin&Bean this morning. For the most part, I’ve liked this guy. His UFC commentary is usually pretty good, his stand-up isn’t bad and he’s pointed out how many comics joke-steal. He hosted Fear Factor, but hey, we all need to pay rent. But after today, I can’t support him anymore. He’s an idiot. Why?

He doesn’t believe we landed on the moon. He believes NASA and the government faked it. And it’s ridiculous. People who believe this are completely brainwashed or something. Look, I’m all for questioning authority, looking for proof of extraordinary claims and not trusting the government implicitly - but this is just absurd. The moon-nuts nitpick a bunch of stuff they know nothing about and say it all adds up to hoax. But there’s some very simple and obvious ways to test this. The most simple is that astronauts left mirrors on the moon’s surface. Scientists can - and have - aimed lasers at them and measured very precisely the distance to the moon using the laser’s reflection. If those mirrors weren’t there - this experiment wouldn’t work.

Moon-nuts are simply latching onto conspiracy theories. They refuse to listen to the very simple explanations given by real scientists about their “concerns” - somehow they think that they found some hole in NASA’s master plan to fool America and the world and that’s all there is to it.

Hopefully some of this can be put to rest in late 2008 when NASA sends the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter to the Moon. It will be able to take pictures of the landing sites. There are some orbiter pictures now of the sites, and you can see the landers - but the resolution is poor and naysayers claim they’re just big rocks.

Give it up Rogan - to use your word, you’re a dummy.

Yeah, I knew Rogan was a conspiracy theorist but I do support his campaign against joke stealing. Having friends who are trying to break through in the standup circuit helps.

Maybe this is an issue like our elected officials, where we can support them on some issues but not on others.

God, now I feel like I have to take a shower.

News Radio (which you missed) definitely makes up for Fear Factor.

That’s a pretty absurd theory, though. Maybe he’s taken too many kicks to the head or something.

Yes, I forgot newsradio…but then again, do we really want to support that which propelled andy dick to stardom?

I would fly you to the moon and back if you’ll be, if you’ll be my baby.

Ok, so those are actually some ’90s Savage Garden lyrics, but I’ve got nothing to add on this topic, other than the fact that your title moon song reminded me of another moon song.

    :P
