A Meme
Published May 22nd, 2007Original thought appears to be lacking today, so lets go with a meme! First found at The Library Diva.
A book that made you cry: The first book I can remember making me cry was Where the Red Fern Grows, Wilson Rawls. You don’t cry from that book, you don’t have a soul.
A book that scared you: Whitley Streiber’s Communion. Still the scariest thing I think I’ve ever read.
A book that made you laugh: Hmm. Well, Hitchhiker’s Guide of course. But I’d also recommend Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett and To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis.
A book that disgusted you: None come to mind.
A book you loved in elementary school: First one that I can think of is The Last Stegosaurus. Must have read it half a dozen times. I can find no record of this book anywhere
A book you loved in middle school: When did I read Ender’s Game? Might have been middle school….Oh and Jurassic Park.
A book you loved in high school: The Stranger, 1984, Brave New World, The Handmaid’s Tale. Yes, you sense a theme.
A book you hated in high school: I generally don’t remember the ones I hate.
A book you loved in college: Snow Crash, Cryptonomicon.
A book that challenged your identity: Library Diva had trouble with this one, and I do too - Not really sure I understand. Challenged my identity? Hmm. Perhaps James L. Halperin’s The Truth Machine? It got me thinking, that’s for sure. Jared Diamond’s Guns, Germs and Steel. Or maybe this question is looking more for Please Understand Me, David Kiersey.
A series that you love: How long does a series have to be to be a series? The Mars Trilogy, Kim Stanley Robinson. The Hyperion Series, Dan Simmons.
Your favorite horror book: Unless China Mieville’s stuff counts as horror - don’t really read horror.
Your favorite science fiction book: This is impossible for me.
Your favorite fantasy: Neverwhere, Neil Gaiman.
Your favorite mystery: Hmmmm. I dont’ read much that qualifies as mystery I guess.
Your favorite biography: Don’t read autobiographies much. I guess Mick Foley’s Have a Nice Day!
Your favorite “coming of age” book: Jeez I dunno. Am I obligated to say Catcher in the Rye here? Ender’s Game? Lord of the Flies? I’m not even sure what qualifies this category.
Your favorite classic: The Time Machine and War of the Worlds. H.G. Wells, my friends.
Your favorite romance book: Another stretch…let’s see. Perhaps The Time Traveler’s Wife? Audrey Niffenegger wrote a creepy but very good book. I feel like there’s a book I want to put here, but it’s not coming to me.
Your favorite book not on this list: So many! Perdido Street Station, Mieville. Fahrenheit 451, Bradbury. Doomsday Book, Willis. Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Haddon. A Fire Upon the Deep, Vinge. Never Let Me Go, Ishiguro.
I guess the proper way to end this meme is to say, if you give this a shot too, post it or the link to your blog in the comments!
Wow, you are waaaay more motivated than I, linking to all the books in Amazon.
