Las Vegas, The City Where I Couldn’t Sleep
Published April 22nd, 2007Spent the past weekend in Las Vegas. It was birthdays for a couple friends, and so most of my close friends were all heading out there. Against my better judgement, I eventually agreed to go. It was pretty much what I expected.
I’m don’t like to gamble and I really don’t have any money right now. I really hate going to clubs - I simply have no clue what to do there or why it’s supposed to be fun. I was pretty worried I’d have nothing to do - and I was pretty much right. I tried to have fun gambling, but all I could afford were the $0.25 video blackjack machines. I spent $20 each day playing for a little while, broke even on two days and lost it all on the other. I couldn’t justify losing any more than that, especially with how expensive food and room were. I did make the effort to go to a club, which I found to be probably the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen. I lost sight of my friends, couldn’t find them, hell couldn’t even move in the place or hear a word anyone said. So left there as soon as I could finish my $15 drink. I lasted maybe 20 minutes. I didn’t even bother going to one the next night. I spent the night wandering around looking for something to do. I took a few pictures, maybe they’ll turn out OK, but that was about it. Luckily Rich wasn’t too keen on all the clubhopping either, so I wasn’t totally alone at all times. But Saturday was pretty slow, I spent most of the afternoon in the hotel room watching TV. Couldn’t afford to do anything else, after having lost my $20 budget already.
One of the things my last ex really wanted to do was go to Vegas. I think if we had gone, we’d have had fun. Seemed there was plenty of fun stuff for couples to do. But I was too sick to make the trip - if she had just waited another month or two, we could have gone - hell I was even planning a trip for early December. But that didn’t work out. I dunno - I guess Vegas really just isn’t the place for me anyway.
As for the title of this post - I’m exhausted. Since everyone else was getting back to the room at all hours, it was tough to sleep. Plus, crammed 6 to a room which got down to below freezing each night…not much sleep to be had. This month has been a real loser for me - my bank account has just been slammed - car insurance, registration, rent pretty much emptied me out, so Vegas has pretty much locked me into a pasta diet for the next few weeks.
I think next time I’ll beg to be left behind.
Below freezing? Did no one turn on the heat?? And there were 6 of you, you could’ve all snugged!
Sorry the trip wasn’t too fun for you though.
I almost froze to death too. With 6 guys in that room, you’d think one of us would have gotten our lazy asses up and turned the AC down.
BTW, you forgot to mention Burger Bar. That place alone made the trip worthwhile.
Burger Bar was pretty good. I was gonna give it a separate post, actually, but…am lazy….
But yeah. That room was worse than falling asleep in the snow, especially that first night.
