  • Random Thoughts for a Random Friday

    Published April 6th, 2007

It’s “Good Friday” - why the crucifixion of somone’s Lord is “good” I don’t know. Talk about some impressive spin. I mean, if it’s “good” to kill a god, wouldn’t it be “better” if he was left alive to do more good deeds? Clearly I have gone down the road of blasphemy. Damn free will, it always gets in the way.

My blog is driving me absolutely insane - softwarewise. So the widgets that mysteriously stopped working a few weeks ago have started working again. You can see over there on the sidebar, I have flickr photos (still no photos up from the post-fire, because I forgot and I’m a slacker. Maybe I’ll get to it tonight, I plan on relaxing tonight in a bit of a hermit fashion). Also, if you scroll down, you can see I’m not playing as much GalCiv2 lately (even though another mega-patch is in the works…exciting), but have gotten into the Spring Swing with a baseball game. But as mysteriously as these widgets started working again, some other plugins I use for admin stuff have broken. Mysteriously. It’s driving me mad. And I tried fixing the newly-broken plugin, but I think I made it worse.

But I do love me some baseball. Playing a team for a season is fun, but this game has a cool feature where you create a player and work him up into the big leagues, only playing him. It’s sort of like a Baseball RPG, which is pretty cool. Allegedly some Baseball MMORPG is in the works, but I haven’t heard anything about it lately. I have of course modeled (loosely) my first player on myself. Six foot tall lanky 2nd basemen. He weighs 180 lbs., which of course is ridiculous if it’s based on me - but the game only allows a player to go down to 160, and the player model looked like a concentration camp survivor. Seeing as how I currently weigh less than 140, it has once again made me acutely aware of how ridiculously thin I am. And of course my player is a better hitter than I ever was - meaning he can actually hit the ball. There’d be no fun in playing me exactly, since calling me a “hitter” was an exercise in irony. It’s a fun way to play the game though, definitely worth buying the game.

Speaking of low weight, maybe I can gain somem thanks to a new addiction. Normally I don’t get addicted to snacky food or sweets….but oh man, did I find the most awesome thing ever. They’re these little cinnamon rolls from the grocery store. They’re called something like “2-bit Cinnamon Rolls” - and they really are 2-bite sized. I’ve eaten almost all 20 of them this week. This is an insane rate of sweet-eating for me. I need more of them.

Friday Fight: Staxx vs. Pringles - any thoughts? Pringles are the standby, but the Staxx were on sale this week so I got some. I think I may actually like them better! They’re much crispier, each chip is more hearty feeling. Pringles are so wafer-thin they fall apart pretty easily sometimes - but Staxx are thick and crunchy. I’m working my way through the normal flavor, but I have a BBQ flavor to try next.

Went golfing last weekend a little, gonna go again this weekend. I need to get out and play on a some real courses soon, but I just haven’t had the time. Or the money, for that matter. Got some sorta cool photos I want to post up on flickr. Maybe tonight. We’ll see. Cinnamon rolls are the first priority - along with probably a haircut. Which is rapidly becoming another exercise in irony.

It was snowing last night on the Yankees-Devil Rays game. Yesterday’s Tigers-Blue Jays game was cancelled. Today’s Twins-White Sox game has been cancelled due to cold weather. I can’t remember a spring being this miserable for baseball.

This is also the weekend of the Masters. Go Tiger!

There, I think I’ve sufficiently filled my random post quota for the week. Have a good weekend! (all 3.5 of you who read this)

I was completely unaware of this being Good Friday or Easter being on Sunday until my co-worker reminded me. Shows you how religious I am.

There are just too many questions I have that can’t be answered. sigh.
