Panic at the uh…computer
Published March 25th, 2007What else can go wrong? OK I know you’re not supposed to say that - but I’ve not been saying it, and things keep going wrong, so what the hell, why not.
Was able to get out and hike today. Rich, Dave and I hiked out to Parker Mesa Overlook. Of course, the overlook wasn’t very spectacular, since SoCal is in the middle of some kind of bizarre haze storm. Seriously, it’s been ridiculously hazy for weeks now. I have pictures - but there will be a short wait.
I sat down tonight to go through them, find the good ones, touch them up, and upload them to flickr. I did that. I then used a batch resizer - and misclicked something. Not only did it overwrite all my files, it malfunctioned on half of them, totally ruining them. After some moments of sheer drenching panic, Rich found me a program that undeleted the originals off the camera memory card. I am very relieved. VERY. I really like some of the shots.
I will need to go back and re-edit them now, but at least I have the originals. It’s too late to do it now, but tomorrow night hopefully I can sit down and re-create what I had. Unbelievable.
This is on top of my website blowing up last night - half my sidebar widgets have decided to stop working. Since I didn’t change anything, I have no clue as to why this has happened. One is my flickr widget, which is probably my favorite one, and my Now Playing widget is on strike too. I don’t even know where to start to fix them, since I have no idea where it could have gone wrong. I may need to re-install them from scratch, and if that doesn’t work, reinstall wordpress and start all over. And if that doesn’t work, probably give up on anything working right in the near future again.
Went to Zono Sushi in Burbank tonight. Not bad - but Sushi Dake is better. If only they were open on Sundays….
Well it’s time for sleeping now - work starts again tomorrow. I can only hope that this week will wind down a little. I don’t know if I can take a third straight week of crap on top of crap.
Parker Mesa Overlook hike story to come. Better late than never.
