  • Website Shoutout

    Published March 11th, 2007

I’ve thrown a couple shououts before (Centauri Dreams and Comics Curmudgeon) and I’m just going to continue to do so, just because I like sites. I usually have no actual contact with the creators of these sites, and today’s is no exception. To these people, I pretty much don’t exist, and that’s OK! Hopefully I have some random readers out there that enjoy my site that I have never interacted with.

Today’s site-o-fun is Tetrapod Zoology. If you’re at all into uh, creatures large and small, this is the site for you. Here is a good summary of what the author, Darren Naish, is into - and so what you will find covered on the site:

I like dinosaurs very much, but they’re far from the only animals that I find interesting. I’m fascinated by all tetrapods and have some practical and research experience with Mesozoic marine reptiles, marine mammals, flightless birds and pterosaurs. I spend as much time in the field as possible, looking at real live tetrapods.

Well hell, in my opinion, damn near since birth, there’s not much cooler than dinosaurs, marine reptiles and mammals, flightless birds and pterosaurs. This is the problem though, being an infovore - I find very, very little uninteresting. He also worked on the excellent Discovery Channel (well, BBC originally) series Walking with Dinosaurs, making him an instant hero in my book. My last girlfriend mocked me incessantly for watching that show, but it did little to diminishy my personal fascination in it. She’s my ex-girlfriend, not for that reason, but maybe it should have been a sign?

I digress, as usual. Back to the matter at hand. Naish writes extensive blog posts. They’re more like encyclopedia articles, and can be somewhat overwhelming at times. And when someone can write something that overwhelms an infovore, you know it’s chock full of info goodness. His blog has risen to my “excited when a new article is there” list. He is also thereby taken off my “so full of talent at something I wish I could do that it disgusts me (because I’m secretly jealous)” list. Rock on Darren!
